About the film: wave vs. shore is a documentary film by Martin Štrba about the extraordinary generation of Slovak photographers that got together at FAMU (Film Academy) in Prague at the beginning of the 80s. Through current interviews with the original protagonists (creators) of the 80´s New Wave, the film tries to capture the process of accumulation and multiplication of creative energy at given place and time. The theme of the film is contemporary in respect to referring to the role of the environment in which creativity and inspiration can overgrow into phenomena. What were the influences that affected the Slovak FAMU photography students at the beginning of the 80s, and is it possible to intentionally create conditions for occurrence of such phenomena?
